Biography Download the following biography (pdf) I was born in Bedford, England on September 7th 1991 to my parents Karen and Mark. My mother has a Bachelor of Education degree in Physical Education and my father a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. After careers in teaching and IT, they now both run Top Spin Tennis, and have three pro-shops in tennis facilities. They both hold their Master Racket Technician qualifications and my mother strings for the top players at Wimbledon each year. I have a younger sister Katie who also enjoys all sports. I’ve always loved the game of tennis. Since my mother is a qualified coach, I was shown the basics of the game at a very early age and have been brought up with the sport (with a racket in my hand as soon as I could walk!). I first played for my county (state) in Cambridgeshire, at the age of six and have worked very hard to progress my skills and natural ability in the sport from that age. I took my GSCE’s at City of Ely Community College in 2008 before moving onto Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge, one of the best colleges in the country. I took my AS level exams in June 2009 and will complete my A levels in June 2010. I strongly feel one of the best ways to further develop my potential is to play at an American college, hopefully with a sports scholarship. Even though tennis is an individual sport, I love being part of a team and having that as an extra motivator allows me to perform to the best of my ability. In 2008, playing top singles and doubles for my local club, Cambridge Lawn Tennis Club, we won the under 18 National Club Championships – a great team achievement. I currently have a Lawn Tennis Association (UK) rating of 3.2 and reached an under 18 national ranking high of number 4. I have 88.75 junior ITF ranking points giving me a ranking high of 463, scored from just five tournaments. I am looking for a four year degree course in America, as I feel this would broaden my horizon as well as continuing my education and an opportunity of great tennis. I am a very motivated and driven student wanting to achieve the best and be as successful as possible. I am very competitive and love a challenge, committing myself to the county, college and my sport. Though I am dedicated, I do like to enjoy myself and spend a lot of time socialising and playing other sports with friends, such as golf. I have recently visited Boston in America with my college as part of our study of international sports organisation, including a trip to Harvard. It was a fantastic experience seeing and meeting college sport players and coaches and also viewing the exceptional facilities. After looking on lots of American college websites and speaking to past students who have attended, I have a good overview of what college life is like. This has given me more incentive to attend a college in America and increased my desire to study and play abroad. In June 2009 I passed my UK driving test which gives me far more freedom and independence and allows me to get myself to tennis tournaments. In November 2009, I took my SAT exams. |
